Body building has always been unfairly labeled as a vanity sport. However, that is incorrect and body builders do have practical reasons to build up their bodies. In the early years, the goal of body building was to achieve some physical ideal that people have for themselves.

The Greeks, for example, sculpted their bodies according to the proportions of ancient statues. While times have changed, the process of achieving the resultsĀ  you want for your body remains the same.

You still have to focus on your:

  • nutrition,
  • training and
  • rest.

Nutrition
Nutrition is an important part to any fitness routine, even so for body building. Without a proper diet, you are not going to get the nutrients needed to repair and grow your muscles. As bodybuilders, they need more calories and more protein than anyone else. Carbohydrates are needed to fuel their bodies while protein helps to build muscle.

Training
Strength trainings with weights or resistance bands help in growing your muscles very quickly. As some of you may know, your msucles grow due to the damage they sustained during such trainings.

What happens is that during trainings, muscles are torn. These micro tears are the reasons for your muscle soreness. As your body go into repair mode during rest, it also helps to grow your muscles. That is how we often hear people say that in the world of body building, no pain, no gain.

Rest
Rest is important yet it is often ignored. As discussed earlier, muscle growth cannot occur without proper rest. You need to give your body time to maintain itself. That is why proper schedule is important and having sufficient sleep is important. For most adults, 7-8 hours of sleep is recommended.
